Art in the Kitchen

Sunday, October 20, 2013

As I make my way through my kitchen makeover as part of One Room Challenge,  I'm giving some thought to how I can bring some personality and interest into my small, featureless kitchen.  One thing I'd like to explore is bringing some art in my kitchen.  If you recall, I have a rather large, blank wall at one end of my kitchen where the dining table and chairs are placed.

My wall is crying out for help.

But what do you think is the best scenario in this situation?

I love the idea of a large, single piece of art, maybe even a big portrait.

I love everything in this kitchen.

I think the portraits lend an air of sophistication to these kitchens.

But how about something whimsical?

or dramatic, like below

Botanical prints are also something I would consider

Or even a colorful abstract..

So I 'd love to hear what you think .  Do you like to use art in the kitchen, and what do you think the best option is for my blank wall???

Knowing your style I trust your eye. We've seen what you can do! For what it's worth, anything true vintage would lend a patina and that alone could add some personality. What ever you decide on, I'm sure it won't disappoint. Can't wait to see the final result!!!

Art is so hard for me. I prefer original or vintage pieces. I love abstracts and portraits the best. I know whatever you do, it'll be fabulous

I think some big fun piece would look great with your table and chairs.

I like the idea of an old portrait because you can make up a funny story about how the painting depicts "Old Uncle Albert" or "long-lost Cousin Harriet". I say have fun with it!

A big YES Kim! Although, I haven't hung any yet. I so love the fern and moss wall art over at Vivaterra (http://www.vivaterra.com/accessories/wall-decor/fern-and-moss-wall-art.html

But budget is still a bit tight, and I don't know how long they can last. I love all your options, so just go with your gut, I bet it will still look fabulous!

You always get me to think! Love every kitchen here, and the man in the second kitchen painting looks like he is truly leaning on the counter! Wow.
Can't wait to see what you do.

I'm a huge fan of oversized artwork, it makes such a statement no matter the genre, go for it!

I think dramatic in a kitchen is long term not the place. A kitchen has to be homey and comfortable but unlike a study or office, one isn't browsing on the Internet ;). I think the portrait, abstract or prints in a gallery wall form is the best. I find that botanical antiques vintage prints lend a nice feel to a kitchen.

I love all of those options, but I think a portrait would be really unexpected and interesting. No matter which way you go, I can't wait to see it!

A large piece of art - either a portrait or an abstract will look great.

I don't have any blank walls in the work area of my kitchen so no art but you know me, every inch of wall space in the rest of my house is filled.
I like the idea of vintage portraits in the kitchen.

Art is so personal. you just need to find something that speaks to you. Don't pick it b/c it works well with everything else in the room. Pick it b/c you love it!!
