Proud to be Green!

Tuesday, July 27, 2010

People often ask me how I came up with the name "Green Room Interiors" for my business.  There are two reasons:  First of all,  I love to remake and repurpose existing furniture pieces!  Not only great for the environment, but great for the wallet (hey, isn't that a third "green"!?) And, more importantly, green is my favorite color! I think I've used every shade of green there is  - hunter, olive, lime, celery, apple and fern - depending on the decade!

Right now I have my sights set on kelly - it looks so fresh and bold, especially when used with lots of white!

I'm in love with this Meg Braff master bedroom.

My favorite color to pair with green is pink!

But green is really a neutral and plays nice with lots of different colors

And green in the bedroom is so restful...

How do you like your green?

Bliss in the Bathroom

Sunday, July 25, 2010

Did you know that one of my favorite spaces to renovate is the bathroom? It's true!  I have done countless bathroom renovations in the old homes I have restored -  and trust me, bathrooms have come a long way since the turn of the century!  I think humankind has finally come to the realization that the first space you visit each morning to prepare for the day ahead should be functional and inspiring!  Imagine starting each day in a space like one of these...

I have a pair of sinks very similar to this in my own master bath.  I love them because they are vintage looking but have a nice deep basin and a big rim for all of my "stuff".

I  think a powder room is the perfect opportunity for a gallery wall! It's unexpected, and is easily enjoyed by (shall we say) the captive audience!

Happiness is having your own sexy seating area in the bathroom!

You don't even need a big space to make a huge statement.  That great sconce and wall mounted plumbing goes a long way to make cute happen in this tiny bathroom!

The two above are for my girly-girls!

Hope your week is full of blissful moments!

Updating the Classics - Wing Chairs

Tuesday, July 20, 2010

Is there anyone out there that doesn't own at least one wing back chair?  These iconic chairs  have been around for hundreds of years and remain popular today.  The concept behind the wing chair's design is quite practical - they were meant to be used fireside to capture heat and trap it between the chair's wings.  The wings also served to protect its user from cold drafts.

Early wingback chairs from the 1700's.

Wing chairs are still popular today  for their classic good looks and comfort.  Some versions even have a modern feel.

If you love the look of these modern beauties but don't have a big budget for the designer pieces, why not create your own modern classic?  Any sturdy wingchair can be transformed through fabric and/or paint.  And isn't it fun to make it your own with fabric and trim selections that make your heart skip a beat?

Still not over these - love!
