Still Here

Thursday, November 21, 2013

In case you were wondering, I haven't fallen off the face of the earth.  The truth is I've been blessed with an abundance of work and between that and keeping my booth stocked and still being a wife and Mommy and enjoying our sweet new grandbaby its been a little tough to find the time to blog.  I'm also feeling a little spent after the One Room Challenge .  Oh, it was all good and I'm beyond excited to have my kitchen all zhushed up but it kind of zapped my energy.  Speaking of the One Room Challenge, thank you so much for all of your kind comments and emails.  Those last few weeks were tough and your encouragement meant the world to me.

So, how about I give you a quick round up on what's new in my world.

First of all, this little guy is such a bright spot in my life.  At almost 4 months, he's in that sweet spot where the smiles come easily and he's happy most of the time.  What a blessing!!

And there have been (more than) a few purchases.

I'm currently having an inner debate about whether to paint these or not.  On one hand, they're in great shape.  On the other hand, well, red lacquer. These will most likely make an appearance in my living room at The Dollhouse.

I'm anxiously awaiting the arrival of this beauty from My Darling House.  I used to be into horses in a big way, and I've never seen a fox hunting themed painting in colors like these.

Also, there has been some work-related progress a la this:

and

and decisions have been made regarding my living room and dining room makeovers here at the Dollhouse.  I'm excited to share that business soon.  I think it's going to be good!

So I leave you with my most sincere wishes for a wonderful upcoming Holiday season. Posting may be a little sporadic over the next few weeks, so I hope you'll check in on me now and again.

If you'd like more frequent updates, I'd love to have you follow me on Instagram!  Posting is quick and much more regular.  If you're not on Instagram, follow me on Facebook and/or Pinterest.

Who's ready for the holidays?

Rooms without Pattern

Monday, May 20, 2013

Pattern is something I love to work with and is a great place to begin the design of a room.

I bet you would never guess that I'm also drawn to rooms that have little or no pattern.  This room by Gerrie Bremmerman is an all time favorite room of mine.

I realize there is subtle pattern in the weave of the rug and the detail on the console tables and mirrors, but for the most part, it's a combination of solids - and allows you to focus on the shape of each piece of furniture.

I think Myra Hoefer does patternless rooms better than anyone.  I read an article once that said the key to using only solid fabrics is to vary the sheen.  She mentioned that she loves to combine velvets and silks.  All in solid colors - and one of the colors she loves to use is yellow.

This bedroom by Suzanne Kasler is done in blush feels so restful and calm.  Can you imagine how different it would feel if it were layered with pattern?

Where do you stand on using pattern. Love it or leave it?  Or does it depend on how, what and where?

So here's what I've been up to

Monday, April 15, 2013

Happy tax day!  When I saw what would be going down around here this past weekend

I decided to get out of town.  And that's just what I did.

There was lots of shopping, and I found some exceptional pieces for my booth and for The Dollhouse!  So many great pieces that they deserve - and will have -a post all their own.

There was some restyling of Mom's secretary to accommodate her growing collection of blue & white porcelain.

New lighting got installed

for this nursery project.

There was some rug obsessing  and a final selection
for this dining room project

all topped off by this situation at Wal-mart.  (about 60 people ready to check out and 3 lanes open.)

Now fill me in on what you've been up to!  Taxes done? Extensions filed?  Good shopping finds?

New at My Booth

Sunday, September 16, 2012

I haven't posted about any of the items I have for sale in my booth for a while, so it's high time I show you one of my favorite pieces! This pretty cottage style bed is an estate sale find and is over at my space at Merchants on Main.

I'm not sure how old it is but it's a full size bed and comes complete with all the rails, which is sometimes hard to find with antique beds. The bed is creamy white with gold details, and is still wearing it's original paint.  The gold details give it a sophisticated feel, and I think this bed could be the centerpiece of a beautiful Swedish country bedroom.

Swedish country rooms are typically clean, light and simple. There are no busy patterns, and nothing edgy or pretentious. Think soft colors and checks or stripes.

To get the ball rolling, I've done a little shopping for you to help you create your own Swedish Country bedroom. All you have to do is buy my bed and add these readily available companions!

I've also added some photos of other new items (some great stuff!!!) I have in  my booth over on  my Facebook page.  If you stop by for a look, be sure and like us!

Happy Monday, kids!

Project Dollhouse Master Bedroom is Done (ish) - Instagram Tour

Sunday, July 29, 2012

So you probably thought this day would never come (and even though there are still some projects left to do), I think my master bedroom is finished enough for an Instagram tour.

First, the obligatory "befores".  This is about a year ago, when we first bought Project Dollhouse.  I was not digging those Jif walls.   And the 1972 architectural details are underwhelming, mainly because there are none.

You might remember this post, where I drew inspiration for my/our master bedroom from this tea tin.  I loved the jade color combined with pinks and reds and, of course,  the Chinoiserie style.

Here is the inspiration board, which is centered around the screen, which is now my headboard:

And here is my bedroom:

The screen was a super-lucky find.  I blogged about making over the nightstands here and about the Pagoda lampshades here.  The gold bench at the end of my bed is really a pair of Mid-Century tables that were sprayed gold (they sat in my booth forever- apparently no one in Chattanooga thought they were as cool as I did).  Anyway, I just butted them together for a makeshift bench - eventually I'll get a white fur cushion made.

Do you remember this lamp love story? Apparently it was meant to be.  We're still together : )

Same campaign dresser, 2 different looks.  When Katie came over to take photos, we played around with the styling.

And in the spirit of full disclosure, normally I have a tv on top of this dresser. It got zhushed up for its photo shoot.

So, for those of you who were here from the start of this project, thanks for hanging in there!  And if you're new to my blog, thanks for stopping by!

By the way, aren't these reveals nerve-wracking?  I feel like I just walked out of the dressing room with a bathing suit on.

Opposites Attract

Wednesday, February 15, 2012

I just saw this image over at MFAMB and could not stop looking at it.

This bedroom is full of contradictions yet it all works together.  Shall we analyze?
1.  The feminine settee vs. the masculine headboard
2.  All of the contrasting textures: the smooth wood floors, rough stone walls, soft fur throw and rug, dainty matelasse quilt, chalky white ceiling
3.  The light and open feel of the stripe on the settee against the dark, dense print on the tablecloth

The elements in this room seem to have little in common, yet when they're combined, well - it's magical!  I think rooms like this are the most engaging spaces, don't you?  Rather than being perfectly coordinated and "decorated", they feel collected, personal and interesting.  And isn't that what a great space is all about?

So tell me what opposites you've combined lately!
