Latest Finds

Monday, June 10, 2013

Hello out there! It's been a while since I've posted anything new so how about I bring you up to speed on several fronts?

Work-wise, I've been blessed with some incredible opportunities lately for the most amazing clients!  These are all enthusiastic, happy folks who are giving me free reign to do what I love to do and yet they also have great ideas and strong opinions about where we're headed.  It makes this little journey we're on together really fun and completely fulfilling.  I hope to be able to share some photos with all of you as these projects progress.

In other news, I've been scouring the area in search decorating gold - those fantastic and unique vintage pieces that bring so much character and personality to a space.  Want to see what  I found?

We're starting big.  This stellar mid-century dresser is a craigslist find. It's solid walnut and is in impeccable condition.

So I paid a little more than I normally like to pay, but I feel like I got my money's worth and then some.  I'd love to keep it but sadly I have no place for it.  And there are groceries to pay for.

I just picked up this wicker storage chest.  It's very well made and sturdy, and it could be another one of those things I bought because I really liked the hardware.

Are you seeing the fun-house reflection of my shoe and leg in the hardware?  Gross.

And lots of blue and white.  I always feel lucky when I find a pair of lamps.  Pretty details, too!

I may use this umbrella stand here at The Dollhouse in the foyer. Goodness knows it would come in handy with the buckets of rain we've been getting.  Really, I want to keep each and every one of these things and it makes me a little sad to part with the things I sell.

I'm guessing that this brass octagonal mirror is from the late 70's to early 80's. It weighs a ton and all the edges are beveled.

And so there you have it.  Well, most of it.  We've also made some baby steps on the renovations here at my Dollhouse.  But that's a whole separate post.  Those plywood sub-floors that are in my living room/dining room? Their days are numbered.

I'd love to hear about what's new with you!  Leave me a comment or shoot me an email!

$400 - pricey but its mahogany by Hekmann

$80 for all 3 pieces!
So clever how this fits together!

$300, but seller will negotiate.

All for $299

Whaaat?  The heading for this listing was "Chairs Chairs Chairs" . Do you think this is for real or is it a bait & switch?
Yeah, I do have a call into this guy.

Oh, and the strangest listing..
is this dinette set.  Don't you think we might want to see the table and chairs?

It's a brand new week - make it a good one!!

Stalking Chattanooga Craigslist III

Sunday, October 3, 2010

Thanks to everyone for your comments and well-wishes on my recent move.  We are in our new old house and we are slowly (or at least slower than I would like) settling in.  Thankfully I have my kitchen pretty well set up and the bedrooms are functional, so even though we may not be able to find socks that match every day, we all have a place to sleep and eat. Right after we moved in the hubby got a nasty case of the flu that came with a raging sinus infection!  I'm happy to say he is doing much better (after a round of antibiotics and steroids).  And, I finally have my internet connection up and running (yay!) .  Naturally one of the first things I did when I got back online was to check out the local Craigslist posts to see what might turn up!

Cute little bar cart!

I know the setting is a little bordello-esque, but these mirrors are fantastic!  Wouldn't they be great above the nightstands that flank your bed?

Wowza!  This sweet French twin bed is upholstered in champagne silk shantung and comes complete with bed rails at an unbelievable price!

Yes the dolls are a little creepy but these are great  pink velvet wing chairs!  Remember this post about my dining room makeover that would have all the gray and coral?  These  would be perfect host and hostess chairs and they are priced at $125 for the pair!!  As my luck would have it she sold the chairs the very day I called her.  Dang!  She said they had been on Craigslist for weeks and somebody just up and bought them that morning.  Did I mention they are velvet?  Dang!

Cute French mod chair, and looks like it has diy upholstery potential.  Seller is ready to deal, it is posted every few days with a slightly lower price each time. Paint the frame black and upholster in this fabric

Flowering Branch by Braemore

Great looking chairs and there are two of them.  Lots of yummy nailheads, too. At $200 for the pair, they aren't cheap so I would offer less.  Paint the frames in high gloss white and upholster in this fabric

Love this combination so much I am going to try to put a mood board together for a room that is inspired by these chairs in this fabric.  Hope to have it for you next time!

So great to be back!  Can't wait to catch up on what's been going on with all of you, too!  Happy happy Monday!!

Stalking Chattanooga Craigslist

"I believe in plenty of optimism and white paint." - Elsie de Wolfe

I can't tell you how many times I've reworked some lowly castoff furniture piece that someone decided they no longer loved.  This is such a fun way to decorate because you can really make it your own through paint, upholstery or other decorative finishes.   Craigslist is a really good resource to find these diamonds in the rough and I am sharing my picks for what I found on Craigslist in the Chattanooga area.

This is one of a set of four that the owner is selling.  They appear to be in excellent condition, are custom upholstered and neutral enough to go just about anywhere.

This traditional style dresser provides lots of storage and could easiily updated with a fresh coat of paint; or, if you are a purist, a good cleaning and some Old English!

These old steamer trunks are so versatile.  Depending on the size, you can use them as coffee tables or stack them for a practical side table.  With either option, you'll get lots of  look!

Okay, if this bed was a queen size it would be in my room right now!  It is a full size and is tres' beautiful. Priced at a couple hundred bucks, this bed is a no-brainer! The image below is the exact same bed, sold through JCPenney (the Chris Madden Collection).  The image is from their website.

Hey good looking :) ! This mirror is a steal at $32 and is solid mahogany.

These vintage club chairs have beautiful lines.  Reupholster them in neutral suede, linen or velvet and punch them up with some colorful mod pillows!

Unbelievable! This 1940's kitchen set is complete with the porcelain topped table and 4 matching chairs.  The table features a pullout drawer for your silverware.  There are more photos online, but it looks to be pristine!  And black & white will blend so easily with any color palette you want to work with!

I love oriental details of this filing cabinet.  Such a stylish way to corral your clutter!

Great weather for shopping from home in your pj's!!
