Patterned Floors - Yes or No?

Sunday, December 8, 2013

I think we can all agree that wood is at the top of the list when it comes to flooring choices. And with good reason.    It's hard to beat the warmth and timeless appeal of a wood floor.

But have you ever considered taking a risk with a bold  pattern on the floor?

I love this bedroom in a large way, and for the record, most everything Alex Papachristidis does.

I think if I were going to try a patterned floor then the bathroom might be the best place to try it.  That floor is amazing with the white walls isn't it?

I particularly love the patterned carpet in the bedroom below by Mario Buatta and Susanna Salk. And that fabric.  Pretty gorgeous.

And here's a patterned floor in a room with an entirely different feel, courtesy of Kelly Wearstler in Lonny.

This one is a modern interpretation on the classic hex tile.

So what do you think?  Patterned floors?  Yes or no?

Instagram Faves

Monday, September 16, 2013

Once again I'm a late arrival to the latest social media party.  I'm talking about Instagram.  I created my Instagram profile quite a while ago, but I only used it to try and disguise my pathetic photography skills by using the filters.  Recently I started using Instagram to gather inspiration and get quick updates on the folks I'm following.  And if you haven't joined in on the fun, I highly encourage you to get started.

One of my favorite Instagrammers is Ashley Hicks  Here's why:

And in case you need a better look on the amazing detail on those doors

And how else would I have the opportunity to take in this picturesque view?

I also look forward to seeing posts from Alex Papachristidis.  The next two images are from alexsviewpoint.

And finally, here's a chair I won't soon forget.

So now I see what the fuss is all about.

The Good Kind of Shopping

Sunday, November 25, 2012

Hello and happy Monday!  How was your Thanksgiving?  Mine was delicious (thanks Mom!) and I'm happy to say that my now slightly larger backside did not stand in any of those awful Black Friday lines.  I will never understand the excitement some people seem to get from that tradition. That being said, I did manage to make it to a few Antique Malls and actually found some lovely things.

Like this sweet floral chair.

It has a great shape -  and that peach and gray floral fabric? It reminds me of my own peach and gray wedding ages ago.

Who doesn't love a gold faux bamboo table?
Alex Papachristidis hasn't met one he doesn't like (and I say that in the best possible way).

This pair of interracial concrete greyhounds would be wonderful flanking a fireplace (or my front doors).
I'd love to have these, with a side of Zimba.

I haven't personally jumped on this bandwagon, but these lockers look great in orange.
And could be very practical in an office.

That concludes the stuff I didn't buy portion of my little shopping excursion. I'd love to know what you bought over the weekend. And more importantly, are you out of your "yoga" pants yet?

Alex Papachristidis

Thursday, May 20, 2010

When I think of rooms designed by New York decorator Alex Papachristidis, the adjectives that come to mind are: Classic, Colorful, Fresh and Fearless! Of these adjectives, I admire (in a borderline stalker kinda way) him most for his use of color!  Fresh, happy colors that put you at ease and bring a smile to your face.  Sure, I have seen some neutral rooms that are fabulous, but for this gal, color is king!

Alex Papchristidis at his best.  Colorful, bold and little edgy!

Classic elements are used in a modern way.

Here the use of color is restrained, but the drama is not!

More vibrant color mixed with classic elements

Those bold lampshades provide an unexpected shot of color

Layer upon layer of fabulousness is also one of Papachristidis' trademarks

This makes me almost not afraid of purple.  (The coffee table seals the deal, yes?)

Classic .. and funky!

More layers of classics reinterpreted in a modern way

My absolute favorite! In the words of Rachel Zoe ... "I die"
