New Year New Opportunities

Monday, January 6, 2014

Hello and happy 2014!  I  thoroughly enjoyed the holidays and my blogging break, but I'm ready to get back in the swing and get this new year underway!  I've read so many inspirational blog posts about resolutions and goals for the future and find it so energizing.

What do I have planned for 2014?  I plan to build on and grow my business this year!  I feel like I turned the corner in 2013 from having busy spurts to being consistently busy - and it feels great!  I hope that trend continues and I intend to continue working hard and building my brand.

I've also been kicking around the idea of opening an Etsy shop so I can share my vintage finds with a broader customer base.  I still have my booth here in Chattanooga but I'd like to expand on that. I will be testing the waters with a series of tag sales hosted here at my blog and on my Instagram feed, so make sure you're following along because I wouldn't want you to miss out on the fun!

And finally, some serious decorating is in the works at Project Dollhouse, the little house of never ending projects. This awesome rug I got for Christmas will be making an appearance in aforementioned project.

And so it starts!  Happy New year, and thank you for taking the time out of your day to visit and comment.  That's what keeps me going!!

Favorite Pieces

Friday, April 19, 2013

What?  Friday already????

Before we get this weekend underway, I want to share a few of my favorite pieces from last weekend's shopping trip in Atlanta.

How cute is this 1960s Drexel night stand?  I love the brass caps on the legs and the marble top.

I think this piece is worthy of a bedroom like this.  Poodle optional of course.

Agreed?  Call/email me.  Let's make this happen at your place!

Also got a PAIR of these fab mid-century mini consoles.

Are dying over the hardware and burlwood details?  Me too!  I think one will take up residence at The Dollhouse in my teeny tiny foyer.
So handsome.

And, you already know I love these little brass pharmacy lamps.

His twin is going to my booth, so grab it while its still there!

AND, if you're wondering what my favorite piece of furniture is in my home, head over to my gal Tiffany's blog and see for yourself!

Have a fantastic spring weekend, kids!!!

New Shop Items and Finds

Thursday, April 4, 2013

Good Thursday!  I hope you're having a good and productive week so far.  Today I want to share some new things I'm adding to my booth at Merchants On Main, and a few things I might be keeping here at Project Dollhouse.  Ready?

I'm kind of proud of myself for getting this one done.  I had only a yard & a half of fabric and the first cut I made was for the back of the chair and I cut the fabric a little too small.  Since the pattern has such a big repeat I had a hard time finding another part of the pattern that would fill the space properly. Luckily, the upholstery gods were smiling on me and it all worked out (after bullets were sweated).

I really lucked  out finding this Mid-Century white and gold china set. I'd love to keep it, but I just don't have the need or the space at home.  The set is by "Fascination" and has 38 pieces - including hard-to-find serving pieces like a gravy boat, platter, sugar and creamer.

This is the best rainy day garage photo I could come up with today.  I just finished up this gorgeous 5-drawer chest. Don't you love the pulls?  This piece is Mid-Century, made by Dixie and is solid oak under the new oil-based high gloss white finish.  Who doesn't need glamorous storage?

This one may take up permanent residence at the Dollhouse.  It's hand-painted silk and completely gorgeous.

Finally, I've loaded in this Mad Men-esque Mid-Century green pleather chair.  It has great details - can you see the brass caps on the legs?  It also has big brass nailheads on the side, but I neglected to get a picture of that.  It's in as-found but good vintage condition.

Wait, one more thing.  If you follow The Green Room Interiors on Facebook, you'll get to be the first to see new arrivals in my booth, so "like" us!

Mid Century Cane Chairs Makeover

Saturday, November 3, 2012

Today I have a chair(s) makeover to share with you.  I won't bore you with the details of the process,  because its tedious and not very exciting to document in pictures. I say we just take a look at where it all started.

I found a pair of these Mid-Century cane armchairs at an Estate sale.  They were leftovers from a previous estate sale, probably because that gold velvet upholstery was in very sad shape.  Even though the wood frame was in perfect condition, I ultimately painted them because I thought they would look better with the green & white ikat fabric I had chosen.

Fast forward through the stripping, painting, cutting, stapling, gluing and cussing, and this is what I ended up with.

And wouldn't you know just the day before I finished these up I came across the perfect vintage lamp to coordinate with them.

Do you remember my dresser makeover a few weeks ago?

It occurred to me that with just a few accessories and pillows, you could literally build an entire room around these pieces.

Look for the chairs and lamp to mingle with the dresser at my booth at Merchants on Main this week.

Don't you love it when things come together so unexpectedly?

Weekend Victories

Sunday, October 14, 2012

How was your weekend?  I actually got some things done that have been on the back burner for quite a while and even squeezed in a little shopping!

First up, the thrill of victory!  I finished this antique dresser and plan to bring it over to my booth this week.
For those of you who are wondering, the paint I used is Rustoleum's Oil Based High Gloss in Royal Blue.  Right out of the can.  I'm kind of excited about how it turned out. The original finish on this piece was pretty shot, but the lines were fantastic. Once again, paint is the hero!

I also picked up a small herd of brass deer for my booth.

I have high hopes for them this holiday season.  They would be perfect for holiday tablescapes , on the mantel, or even on a coffee table.

Oh, and along the thread of the upcoming holidays, I found a set of vintage mint green ornaments.  I think I'm doing green and gold on my tree this year.  Not the 70's kind.

Speaking of the 70's kind, what do you think of these glasses? I got a set of 6 for my booth, and I think they would be perfect for styling up the bar.

And the headliner:

Teenager pried off of sofa to wash the car - for the very first time.  Some of us found it more amusing than others.

New at My Booth

Sunday, September 16, 2012

I haven't posted about any of the items I have for sale in my booth for a while, so it's high time I show you one of my favorite pieces! This pretty cottage style bed is an estate sale find and is over at my space at Merchants on Main.

I'm not sure how old it is but it's a full size bed and comes complete with all the rails, which is sometimes hard to find with antique beds. The bed is creamy white with gold details, and is still wearing it's original paint.  The gold details give it a sophisticated feel, and I think this bed could be the centerpiece of a beautiful Swedish country bedroom.

Swedish country rooms are typically clean, light and simple. There are no busy patterns, and nothing edgy or pretentious. Think soft colors and checks or stripes.

To get the ball rolling, I've done a little shopping for you to help you create your own Swedish Country bedroom. All you have to do is buy my bed and add these readily available companions!

I've also added some photos of other new items (some great stuff!!!) I have in  my booth over on  my Facebook page.  If you stop by for a look, be sure and like us!

Happy Monday, kids!

Latest Finds

Sunday, July 8, 2012

Did you have a good 4th of July holiday? I hope you did and I appreciate that you're checking in on me after my week away from the blog.  It's been a while since I've posted about my latest shopping finds , and I have some good ones that I'm excited to share with you!  Shall we get to it?

I was so happy to find this rattan headboard for my 13-year old daughter's bedroom.  So Palm Beach, right?  Well, she didn't have the same response to it that I did and within a few hours of placing it behind her bed I found it out in the hallway.  She said it was uncomfortable when she leaned her head against it and declared that having a headboard was too "mainstream".  Did I mention that she's 13?  I've learned to choose my battles so I'm sad to say that this one will be making it's way over to the shop this week.  : (   PS - Somebody buy this and send me a picture like this when you're done.

Luckily, these lamps made the cut for her bedroom.  They're mid-century turquoise and gold ceramic lamps.  There's a pair of them flanking her headboardless bed.  The shape reminds me a little of these Stray Dog beauties.

This painting has two of my favorite things - trees and pink!  This too will make its way to the shop this week.

These green crystals are antique. If you could see them in person you would find that each one is a little different in color and size.  They're perfectly imperfect  - and I like that.

This is just the latest candidate in my long parade of coffee tables.  (For now), it's staying in my family room.

I also got this big hammered brass pot with lion head handles.  I may have bought this just for those lions.

Now here's something you don't see every day. It's a brass candle sconce in the shape of a cobra.  The detail is pretty impressive. In fact, when my oldest daughter found it on the floor she jumped and squealed a little.  She didn't think that was as funny as I did.

This may be staying with me if I can find the right spot for it.  Trust me, this isn't a piece you can just work in anywhere.  I'm thinking when my master bathroom gets a little more finished it might be cool between that mirrors that go over the sinks.

That's all I got for you today!  How about you?  Did you celebrate the holiday with a little retail therapy?

A Look Inside the Shop

Sunday, January 8, 2012

Hello hello!

Now it feels like the beginning of a new year since kiddos are back in school this week and life gets back to a fairly normal routine.

Today I want to share some long overdue photos of things I've added to the shop.  Lots of things have come and gone over the past few months and in early December we celebrated the 1-year anniversary of our opening!

Here are some of the latest additions:

Do you remember these twin beds?  I blogged about them here almost a year ago.  They got sold, and then they found their way back to me because the girl that bought them is moving out of state.  Anyway, there are two and they are painted gray with gold accents and finished off with liming wax. These beds are very good quality - solid oak.

I also have a pair of these French armchairs that I painted, lightly distressed and reupholstered.

This is an old dresser with Deco details and the original brass hardware.

Solid cherry French dresser I painted in a soft white (Ben Moore's Lancaster White). Can you tell from the image that the drawers have a pretty curve?

This is a pair of porcelain jar lamps in teal.  The Chinoiserie pattern is slightly raised and reminds me of wisteria.

I love these simple gold-framed mirrors.  One is good, three is great!

An assortment of black & white items.

And I just sold this vintage cart - but it was so cute I wanted you to see it! The top had some water damage so I decoupaged and antiqued a street map of Chattanooga over it.

Also, stay tuned for my latest project, a matching set of antique bombe chests (which are currently disassembled all over my dining room table).

Feels good to be back in the groove, doesn't it?
