Hand Painted Walls

Thursday, April 25, 2013

Are you like me and love the look of wallpaper but dread the expense/task of putting it up - and worse- one day having to remove it? Well, I've found some smart and courageous folks who have found a way around the heartache of wallpaper installation and removal. They created their own wallpaper with a little paint and a lot of talent.

Exhibit "A".  North Carolina designer Shannon Berry recreated Schumacher's "Birds and Butterflies" with a Sharpie.  And some paint.  Inspired?  The link below the photo will take you to the tutorial.

Who could resist Patricia Shackleford's interpretation of her favorite Gracie paper in 2011?

I absolutely adore this rendition of Oh Joy!'s Petal Pusher.

My friend Cris was inspired by the papers of de Gournay when she designed her new dining room.

And of course, the mother of all hand-painted walls that launched a bizillion blogger "swoons", Danika Herrick's recreation of Schumacher's Chiang Mai Dragon.

I started a little hand-painted wallpaper project of my own but it fell by the wayside about an eighth of way through because of a little "Challenge" I was participating in.  I chose a pattern that I think might be foolproof.

I'll let you know when that project is back on track.

This would take some serious patience! The result is super gorgeous though, and cost effective! Love all these examples.

Every one of these examples is stunning! I have no patience for such projects so I can't wait to see what your "foolproof" adaptation is all about!

I really want to hand paint a wall or walls in my house. I just need to give up sleep altogether to get it done. Maybe some day.

I'm no where near talented enough to pull this off, but I would invite any of these bloggers to come to my house to hand paint my walls!

Shannon's has always been a HUGE inspiration to me. But it was a great lesson to me in knowing my limitations. :) I don't have that kind of talent.

Great inspirations. Can't wait to see your project. I'd love to try Les Touches on some vinyl I have. Need to work on that.

Wow, wow, WOW!!! All of these walls are absolutely AMAZING!!! I am so impressed. Goodness, I wish I had some artistic talent, and a little more patience. I am seriously considering using that beautiful blue and white Sherwin Williams Easychange wallpaper that was featured recently in Matchbook. It is exquisite, the price is unbeatable, AND it’s a cinch to remove! http://www.matchbookmag.com/boutique/884-kathy-ireland-grand-estates-collection-easychange-in-pattern-sw8eg5382

Thanks so much for including my little bathroom, Kim! It's so fun to see other creative wall treatments. Funny...I'm terrified to wallpaper my own walls but have no problem drawing with a Sharpie all over them :)
