Zebrine Wallpaper by Rose Cumming

Tuesday, April 24, 2012

While unpacking some boxes a few days ago, I discovered my old stash of Domino issues and I just couldn't resist the temptation to browse through them one more time.  It seems like I had most of the issues memorized and I almost felt like I was catching up with an old friend I haven't seen in a while.  Do you remember Ashley Whittaker's apartment with Rose Cumming's Zebrine wallpaper in navy & white?  It was a feature I remembered from years ago and that wallpaper doesn't look tired in the least!
This isn't a pattern for the faint of heart, but if your risk-taking threshold is  high, Zebrine could be sensational covering the walls and ceiling of a powder room.

You may also have seen Zebrine in Robin Bell's apartment that was featured in House Beautiful about 6 years ago.
What a brilliant composition!  I love the bold wallpaper with the clean linen sofa, simple pillows and that incredible tortoise shell coffee table.

Another view of Bell's living room.  She used Zebrine throughout most of the apartment!

In the master bedroom, Bell combined Zebrine with very traditional furnishings and fabrics. The zebra pattern on the walls provides some tension - which keeps things interesting.

Again, Zebrine is partnered with traditional elements and a mirrored fireplace.

Zebrine in the kitchen!

I think these staircase images are wonderful.  I love all of the pictures layered over the Zebrine wallpaper!

Would you ever consider using a wallpaper as bold as Zebrine in your home?

I would use it. But in smaller doses. One wall or a piece of furniture covered in it, maybe. I love bold but this isn't just bold, it's very busy as well. And I like my home to be calm and inviting. While I like some of the pics here most of them are pretty dizzying :)

Very cool. Can't say it's my own personal taste but it looks awesome in the second photo and going up the stairwell in the last couple of images!

I am such a fan of that first shot - and as for the black and white zebrine, I've been thinking of doing my tiny kitchen in it. Why not?!

I like the entry hall & hallways in it. Small spaces can handle big punch (and that's where I can handle the big punch, in small doses!)

Kim-
I wouldn't use it in my house, but I LOVE it. You know I love anything zebra. I would be following every line, lol!
Gorgeous rooms. Pinning.
Happy Tuesday evening.

I am not a huge fan of zebra print in general, and I remember seeing that second image for the first time and thinking, "Well, this changes everything!" So fun, Kim. M.

I love zebra, but as you say, this is not for the faint of heart. It's a little too much for me to live with. But fun to look at!

I'm like Teresa. I'm crazy for the photos, but wouldn't do it in my house. I think I'd adore it for a week or two and then have a panic attack. I love the look of your blog -- all the green is so fresh and pretty!

Absolutely love it and would happily use it!!! I think photos of it in real homes really helps you see how with the right artwork, it doesn't seem overpowering.

Have a great day, Kim!

I like this print a lot! In fact, I have a pillow on my shop with this kind of pattern.

I love the print, but may use it in a laundry room, child's room or bathroom!
