My Top 7 Mirrors

Along with lamps, pillows and chairs, I'm a hoarder collector of beautiful mirrors. I find that they're incredibly versatile and I love how mirrors add depth and light to interior spaces.  Here are my top 7 mirror picks.

1.  Sunburst on the Scene  from Wisteria - This one is a no-brainer.  It's bold, sophisticated and classic all at the same time.

2.  Clover Bone Mirror  from Wisteria.  This mirror also comes in a neutral colorway, but this bold blue is really speaking to me!  Wisteria suggests that you might alternatively use this mirror as a tray.  I think that would be my first choice.

3.  Wall Mirror by Kichler from Wayfair.  I'm wondering why they gave this mirror such a bland name? Yes, it's somewhat simple in style but certainly not boring!

4.  Dalton Mirror from Bassett Furniture.  This one is the most masculine of the bunch - I like it's dark, handsome silhouette.

5.  Chippendale Mirror from The Mirror Lady.  I never tire of a classic Chippendale mirror.  I have one very similar to this in pine that I may use in my foyer. 

6.  Antiqued Moroccan Mirror from Wisteria. Wouldn't a pair of these be great behind nightstands flanking a bed?

7.  The Edge Mirror from Kirkland's.  You can't go wrong with this one.  It would be at home in both traditional and modern settings.

Built-in Banquettes

When we go out to dinner we always ask the host(ess) at the restaurant if there is a booth available.  Don't you think it makes the whole dining experience feel more intimate and cozy? Wouldn't it be great to have that same luxury in your own home?  I think so.

You also may find that it's good to know there's a banquette for every taste.

Rooms without Pattern

Pattern is something I love to work with and is a great place to begin the design of a room.

I bet you would never guess that I'm also drawn to rooms that have little or no pattern.  This room by Gerrie Bremmerman is an all time favorite room of mine.  

I realize there is subtle pattern in the weave of the rug and the detail on the console tables and mirrors, but for the most part, it's a combination of solids - and allows you to focus on the shape of each piece of furniture.

I think Myra Hoefer does patternless rooms better than anyone.  I read an article once that said the key to using only solid fabrics is to vary the sheen.  She mentioned that she loves to combine velvets and silks.  All in solid colors - and one of the colors she loves to use is yellow.

This bedroom by Suzanne Kasler is done in blush feels so restful and calm.  Can you imagine how different it would feel if it were layered with pattern?

Where do you stand on using pattern. Love it or leave it?  Or does it depend on how, what and where?
