Still Here!

In case you think I've been spending these last few weeks of summer lounging poolside, let me assure you I've been a busy (tired) girl.  I'll give you a quick rundown of what I've been up to.

First, we took a last-minute vacation to Washington, DC. Have you been?  This was my first trip there and it was one of my favorite vacations ever!  The highlights:

We visited George Washington's Mount Vernon - a lovely historic mansion on an impossibly beautiful piece of property on the Potomac River.

We also spent a busy day at The Smithsonian Museum of Natural History 

and we had the good fortune of being able to witness The Changing of the Guard at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier at Arlington National Cemetery.

Closer to home, I finished painting Shelby's room and moved in her furniture.

And I have to give her props - she chose the wall color (Sherwin Williams Meander Blue), the paint colors for all the furniture, the bedding(from Target) , the end tables and the lamps. #futurepartnerinthemaking .

AND finally, I saved the biggest most amazing/exciting news for last.

This little guy is the newest member of our family as of Thursday afternoon at 4:13!!!   We are already head over heels in love with Rylan and thrilled that he, my daughter Alyssa and her fiance are going to be staying with us for the next few weeks. Is there anything more wonderful than having a baby in the house?

Celadon

I'm a lifelong fan of the color green - in all of its variations. I've used green in all of my homes from waaaay back hunter green in the early 90's to apple, moss, olive, lime, chartreuse - and now emerald and mint.  One shade of green that is beautiful and timeless is celadon.  The name comes from the pottery and glazes that were produced in Asia well over a thousand years ago.

Although celadon is a shade of green, it's a grayed-down version that is quite neutral.

It's such a pretty backdrop for pinks and lavenders.

But wait - you can use celadon as an accent color too. I love it with the warm beiges in this living room designed by Michelle Nussbaumer.

And it looks fantastic with black and gold in this Michelle Nussbaumer entry.

Celadon is also perfect for outdoor use, since it's a color so readily found in nature.

It's also a great color choice for painted furniture. Amazing with the gold details, isn't it?

Client Project Updates

How about I bring you up to speed on one of the projects I've been working on?

Remember this dining room project?

Actually, let's back up.  Here's the only photo I could find of the dining room when I started working with my clients.

I'm not sure if I shared this with you but my clients' inspiration for their dining room was this photo. Turquoise, blue and white traditional goodness.

My client loved the Farrow & Ball Lotus paper so we created a similar look with a stencil. And when I say "we", I mean the decorative artists we hired.

Most recently we changed out the chandelier.  Here's what they had before.

Big and brassy. Although it was a very good quality fixture, we opted for something with a lighter feel. (Thanks, Kimber!)

We also added a new mirror and a pair of blue & white porcelain lamps (I adore the lucite bases)  over the antique buffet my clients purchased at Scott's in Atlanta.

All we have left are the dining room chairs, the window treatments and just a few accessories.  I like to keep it simple in the dining room.  Entertaining is stressful enough without having to remove dozens of tchochkes to make room function properly.

Oh, and any guesses as to what type of chairs my clients are leaning toward?
