Traditional Dining Tables with Modern Chairs

Monday, July 15, 2013

Did you have a good weekend?  I got a big chunk of painting done in Shelby's room and hope to finish it up this week.  It's been fun working with her on this project because she actually has an opinion about how she wants her room and she has some interesting ideas that could be challenging to implement.

In other news, I still have  kitchen and dining room projects that are creeping along.  Slowly.  One thing I'm pretty sure I'd like to do in both of my eating areas is to incorporate mixed dining sets. I'm thinking I'll use traditional tables (which I already have, so that's a plus) and pairing modern chairs with them.

Something along these lines. I love the old chandelier they used too.  Makes the whole space more interesting.

Isn't this a great style mix?  The contrast of the modern chrome chairs is so dramatic with the vintage oak pedestal table.

The space above has a more relaxed and simple vibe, but still offers a lovely mix of styles.  Again with the chandelier.  Great choice.

This traditional/modern dining mix works in reverse too.  As in mixing it up with a modern table and traditional chairs.

Tulip table + Klismos chairs.  I love this combination.

So what do you think?  Do you like to mix up styles in the dining room or do your prefer matched sets?

Mirror Makeover

Friday, July 12, 2013

So in case you've been wondering what in the world I've been up to, I'll just tell you it's a lot of different stuff.  And I will be sharing more of it with you in the near future.

One of the little project-ettes I've completed is a mirror makeover for a client's nursery. If you follow The Green Room Interiors on Facebook, you may have already seen the inspiration board.

As you can see, our plan calls for a round mirror that will be placed on the wallpaper just above the crib.

Enter this little number I spotted at a local Antique Mall.  Nice, but I thought we could do better. So, after the sanding and priming, it got a coat of fresh white paint.

Better, but I still wanted to do more to bring out the stud detail of the mirror, which I think is its most interesting feature.

Familiar with Liquid Leaf?  It claims it's a one-step gold leaf finish in a bottle. And, it's only about $5 at Walmart.

I'm pretty happy with the results.  The gold is warm and soft, and I love it against the white paint. I used one of Shelby's small artists brushes to apply the paint to the studs.

This mirror is a surprise/gift that I plan to deliver to my client Friday afternoon.  I  hope she likes it!

How is your to-do list coming?

Lotus Lamps and Happy 4th!

Wednesday, July 3, 2013

If you follow me on Pinterest (and you should) you may have already seen this gorgeous lamp I pinned last week.

To be honest I don't even remember how we crossed paths, but I think she's a beauty and I wanted to share this little nugget with you before the holiday weekend gets underway.

Lotus lamps are welcome in my home anytime. Do you remember these vintage lamps I found a while back?  They don't quite have the stature of the gold lamps above, but they do have a certain mid-century charm I like.

These lamps look like they could be the offspring of the House Pizzazz lamps and my mid-century lotus lamps.  These are from Stray Dog Designs.

As are the pink ones below.

Like 'em?

Have a safe and happy July 4th celebration!!!
