Around my World in 90 seconds!

Wednesday, April 27, 2011

My world is a mixed bag lately.  Let's dive right in.

1.  Alyssa's prom is Friday!  Can't reveal the details, but if her dress were a room, it would look something like this

2. Horrible storms are have been passing through here all day.  Thankfully we still have power and our trees are still upright.  This neighbor wasn't so lucky...

3.  My peonies and roses are blooming at the same time!

4.  New stuff at the shop

5.  Sold these this week:

Pair of French twin beds

Painted sideboard

Hope the rest of your week is tranquil :)

This is Reality?

Sunday, April 24, 2011

One of my guilty pleasures is Sunday night "reality" tv.  I've been watching The Celebrity Apprentice each week for as long as I can stand it.  If you didn't see it, this week's episode was about promoting the Trump Hotels. To tie in to this segment, I thought it might be fun to take a little web tour of what the Trump Hotels have to offer.

Gorgeous, although it doesn't really fit into my reality!

And in other Reality TV observations...

This season's NYC Housewives are (almost) more than I can stomach..

But....

this gives me hope!  Premieres May 31 at 10:00 p.m.  Will you be watching?

He is risen!  Have a lovely holiday weekend!

Striped Rugs

Tuesday, April 19, 2011

Hello to everyone!  I've been having technical difficulties - Google Chrome crashed again and Explorer is painfully slow and keeps freezing up on me. Wonderful.  Anyway, this has made posting and commenting challenging at best.  I did manage to scrounge together some images of striped rugs that are perfectly summery in feel! I don't think you can go wrong with striped rugs.  They feel so fresh and instanty update a space. Hope you enjoy them as much as I do! And fingers crossed the computer gods will smile on me soon : )

I adore this fresh color palette!

I've also added a few new things to the shop that I hope to have loaded soon - having trouble with Picasa, too.

Be bold!

Furniture Classics I Will Love Forever

Wednesday, April 13, 2011

I had so much fun compiling this post about favorite design elements I will never tire of, I've decided to take that same idea and apply it to the furnitures pieces I've had a LTR with.

1.  Sheraton sideboard.  The Sheraton style is elegant, super traditional and very classic, but with it's clean lines and smart styling it manages to feel modern at the same time!

2.  Tuxedo sofa. Love it for the same reasons as the Sheraton sideboard - clean, classic lines that feel modern.

Wasn't this one of the rooms from Design Star a few seasons ago?

This tuxedo sofa got reupholstered in dove gray velvet in this living room makeover by Birds of a Feather.  I follow their blog - they have great makeovers!!

3.  French Bergere chairs.  This needs no explanation.  A timeless choice that will always work!

4.  Demilune tables.  Beautiful and versatile.  Use two back to back to make a round table or use as console tables.

5.  Parsons Table - Use it as a console table, dining table or writing desk.  Clean-lined, simple beauty!

Your turn!  What would be on your list?

Design Elements I Will Love Forever

Sunday, April 10, 2011

There's been a great deal of discussion in the blogosphere about design trends that are overused (chevron patterns, zebra print, cowhides, poufs, antlers ... and the list goes on)  Although I agree with some of them, I have to admit that several of the items on these lists are in my own home and I still love them and will continue to use them.

Rather than focus on "trends" that may be growing tired, I decided to focus today's post on classic design elements that will remain on my love list from now on...

1.  Classic architecture and molding

Ok, we've all seen this image a million times but what makes this room so memorable to me is the architectural detail. Look at the high ceilings, depth of the crown molding, the enormous doors and those baseboards!

2.  Antiques

3.  Botanical prints - I've used collections of these since the 80's and I still love them today. One is good, two or more is/are better!

4.  Blue & white porcelain

5.  And finally - I will always love a beautiful floral print!

What would be on your list?
