Rather than focus on "trends" that may be growing tired, I decided to focus today's post on classic design elements that will remain on my love list from now on...
1. Classic architecture and molding

Ok, we've all seen this image a million times but what makes this room so memorable to me is the architectural detail. Look at the high ceilings, depth of the crown molding, the enormous doors and those baseboards!
2. Antiques
3. Botanical prints - I've used collections of these since the 80's and I still love them today. One is good, two or more is/are better!

4. Blue & white porcelain
5. And finally - I will always love a beautiful floral print!
What would be on your list?

Gold, anythng with a gold finish, color etc. It's one thing I don't get sick of, ever.
I even had my Mr. T days back in the military when I met my hubby. He said I looked tacky so I pawned it all. I love gold.
Yes true there will always be trends that we get tired of, but I believe those are not our taste to start with and those that stay with us are our true passion.
I for example have always loved suzanis before I even knew what they were called. I bought them more than 15 years ago because of the patterns and colors. I still love them today even though they were all over the magazines and will have them for many years to come, sometimes in a closet sometimes on display. I had moments of enough with them though.
yeah, things get get overexposed, but when used right, chevrons, zebra, antlers, lucite et al, still look great. i think it really depends on context.
and i totally agree with you on classic moldings and architectural details as well as lue and white porcelain. i've consistently loved both for as long as i can remember. not such a huge fan of florals, again though, it's all about context- in the right room, or in the right pattern, some florals are amazing, other times not so much.
All the things on your list are classics and will never get old!
Happy Monday!

I love all your picks. I recently decided to step away from the the magazines. I was getting caught up in the trends and then getting tired of it all. I'm going to stick with what I love.
Great post!! It will definitely help designers. I just love it!! And obviously waiting for lots more information. I also want to share another one Brochure Design Company. You can check it.
I'm with you on the classic architecture and molding.
Love your new blog-look!! ;)
Kim, hope that your week is off to a great start.
I agree with you on all of these. I don't think I will ever get tired of a tiny bit of animal print in a room either.
Love your choices here. So beautiful.

I agree that all of the elements you shared are classics for a reason!
P.S. Love the new blog header, Kim!
Love all of your classics. Faux bamboo is on my list of things I will always love. Not sure if its in or out.
don't know if I have been reading your blog in email form but I am in love with your new look!
Love that blue hall, especially the floor.
The items you have listed are true classics, they can truly make a space beautiful. Architectural molding is high on my list, I think it is something I could never grow tired of.
White pottery is a fave of mine and leather.... Wool rugs too.
I am loving the new look, a new step forward.
Hi! I found your blog through other blogs I follow and I'm so glad I did! I just became a new follower and look forward to getting caught up on our posts.

White kitchens, white walls, antiques. Original art. And a good kitchen nook. There's my list. I enjoyed yours!
Great list, I agree with you on every point. Molding is probably the one thing that can take a great home from beautiful to perfect in my opinion. It's all about the details. Antiques are essential. I often see homes where everything from furniture to art and accents, are bought from big chain stores. What always strikes me is the complete lack of charm in these homes. And the botanical prints: I will forever be a fan!

First - when did the FABULOUS redesign happen!! Just ADORE it!! As for your classic list of design elements - luv them ALL and the incredible painted moldings in the third shot are just amazing!!
Kim iI love your new look!! Very nice. I agree with all of your classics!
The items that may be "trendy", well some have been around for years and are newly dicovered.
I am planning to get a chevron rug as soon as I can! I think it is whatever works well together and that YOU love!

Kim,
Your new look is lovely! So fresh! I agree with all your picks. I don't really follow "trends", I just do what I love and then sometimes am amazed that all of a sudden some of those things are the "new" thing! They are only "out" for me when I no longer love them, not when the "trend" says so. I think that is one of the things that makes our homes, our style, not some copy of someone else's idea of style.

I'm with you on all of these and would add that I never tire of black and white rooms or navy and white rooms, timeless color palettes.
Statuary marble. For life. And bamboo - faux or no. I LLUVIT!
Oh I think this post is wonderful! I will add the sunburst mirror to the list. I really can't see myself ever turning away from that little gem :) I so agree with the blue and white porcelain. I completely regret getting rid of some amazing pieces back when I first got married. I shall never do that again! XO, Kelly
You are looking so glamourous over here...love it!! Totally agree with your picks and I'd add a hint of black in a room.
I think it's all about the balance. I love some trendy pieces but only enough that I can afford to toss them when the trend expires. Classics are forever.
