Tuesday Morning Greek Key Lampshade

Monday, May 30, 2011

On more than one occasion, I've shared my passion/obsession with pretty lamps. Normally when you purchase a vintage lamp, it either comes with the original tattered and fly poop stained shade or no shade at all.  This means I'm always on the prowl for lampshades and I can't wait to share the beauties I found at Tuesday Morning over the weekend.

I got a pair of these big gorgeous lampshades with brass Greek Key detailing.

If you live in Chattanooga, I left you one!

Also, I put a bid in on this pair of stools from here.

Sorry that's so blurry, I snagged the image from their website.

And tears were shed this weekend, too!

Congratulations, Alyssa.  You make me so proud!!

Color Combo I'd Love to Use

Wednesday, May 25, 2011

We all have our favorite colors we use over and over again.  For me, it's usually some variation of the color green.  I also like pinks, yellows, lavenders and turquoise and I like these colors in soft, muted tones.

Imagine my surprise when I find myself attracted to the deep saturated hues of navy(ish) and persimmon, especially when combined together !?!?

Have you been tempted by different colors lately?

Hoarder

Sunday, May 22, 2011

I can't believe it's been a year since I decided to open my booth and I'm very happy I took the plunge.   The extra money has been great and it feeds my creative side, too.  Oh, and then there are the perks - you get to keep your favorite new finds for yourself and you have a way to sell the things you no longer want.  There are also those treasures you hang onto because they are so fabulous that you're sure you'll use them "someday when you redo __________ ."(insert room of your choice here)

Here are a few of my secretly stashed items.

Oh how I love this faux bamboo mirror.  But I think I will be able to part with this one - (it's a bitch to clean)

I have about a dozen more mirrors - these were the easiest to get to. And then there are the chairs...

I'd love to redo this chair in this fabric

Already bought fabric for this one (and others - but that's a whole different post)

I was so excited to find a pair of these charming Bentwood stools.  I was sure they would work in my kitchen at the island but they're bar height, and I need counter height.  They looked shorter in the store.  Bummer.

I love the geometric mat on these Chinoiserie prints.

These prints are like small doses of DeGournay - and probably as close as I'll get : )

Just when you thought we were done with mirrors. This one's a keeper.  I'll use it for Project Kim's Dressing Area.

We could go on forever with the lamp edition.  I have a pair of these incredible turquoise glass and brass lamps.

I also have a pair of these very faded amber glass and brass lamps that I'm keeping in the personal stash.  The color is pretty bad right now, but I have friends who can fix that...

Is there a cure?

Wood Floors in the Bathroom

Tuesday, May 10, 2011

My house was built in 1904 and when we restored it 6 years ago, we kept as much of the original architecture as we could. This included all of the heart pine flooring.  Since we were on a tight budget, we decided to keep the room's original footprint and work with the wood floors that were already in place.

Sorry these photos are not styled (which will be even more obvious after you view the images below). We have since added the glass doors to the built-in cabinet over the tub.

Yes, I was a little worried about having wood floors in my bathroom because of all of the moisture and splashing concerns, but I have to say the floors have held up beautifully and I haven't had a single problem with them. They're also a little warmer and softer on your feet than tile or marble.

More images for those of you who are not convinced...

Wood floors in the bathroom.  Holla.

Coveted Color Combo

Sunday, May 8, 2011

Maybe it's the warm temperatures we have in the forecast this week, but lately I'm drawn to a cooler color palette.  For my master bedroom (if/when I ever get to it), I would love to do it shades of gray and lavender - with an unexpected smattering of chartreuse.

Okay, this is a little more formal than what I have in mind, but the color palette is on target. Do you love those purple lampshades too?

This image is missing the chartreuse, but I do love the lavender sofa and gold accents against the gray walls.

On a side note, what do you think about that Saarinen table with the Chippendale chairs?

What color combinations are calling you these days?
