In other news, I still have kitchen and dining room projects that are creeping along. Slowly. One thing I'm pretty sure I'd like to do in both of my eating areas is to incorporate mixed dining sets. I'm thinking I'll use traditional tables (which I already have, so that's a plus) and pairing modern chairs with them.
Something along these lines. I love the old chandelier they used too. Makes the whole space more interesting.
Isn't this a great style mix? The contrast of the modern chrome chairs is so dramatic with the vintage oak pedestal table.
The space above has a more relaxed and simple vibe, but still offers a lovely mix of styles. Again with the chandelier. Great choice.
This traditional/modern dining mix works in reverse too. As in mixing it up with a modern table and traditional chairs.

Tulip table + Klismos chairs. I love this combination.
So what do you think? Do you like to mix up styles in the dining room or do your prefer matched sets?

I dig the mix! I just tried to pull it off myself, but since I was being cheap I didn't get what I really wanted. It'll be ok for our rental, but I'll always think I coulda done better :)
I really like the antique oak pedestal table with those wonderful designer chairs. The negative space around the chairs complements the massive table.
Absolutely!! One of my favorite looks, I always see chairs on Craigslist that would be easy & inexpensive to incorporate, but a girl can only have so many chairs!
Love the MIX. They all are good! And a dramatic chandelier adds to the interest!!
I love that idea as well. But if I come home with one more set of chairs, I might just be kicked out of the house! :)
I love this concept with modern dining room chairs and an old table! We've got to save our pennies where we can! At least youre making a dent in projects this summer! I'm still outdoors as much as possible. I predict with the August heat and humidity I can tackle my guest bathroom.

I absolutely love the mix which is a conflict for me! While a don't have sets, the styles are all traditional. I'd love a 70s brass and glass dining table with my shield back chairs.
I love and have been on the hunt for just the right chairs that are not too much $. My cousin just got Breuer chairs and is mixing them with a tree trunk tabletop with brass legs that he is making himself. I might have to steal that from his house.
I love mixing it up and what makes it even more fun is that you can change the chairs later, but keep the table...or vice versa.
I love to mix it up like that....makes it easy to change out later...plus gives it a more curated look!
I love to mix old and new!! So much more character.
Beautiful images, Kim, and good luck finishing up!

Love it! I'm doing the mix in my breakfast room at #projectlemonade.
I love the look...I'm looking for chairs now that have the same feel.
No matched sets! I like your examples :D
I am a huge fan of this look- in fact, I have a farm table with eames shell chairs myself!
I also like the opposite: something like louis chairs with a simple/ rustic farm table.
Good post. All of these dining room tables seem like they would go well with the modern chairs that are in the pictures. Thanks for posting.
I love the idea of traditional dining chair .Very creative. They look so best.
