Old School - Betty Sherrill's New York Apartment

Wednesday, August 15, 2012

I came across an article in the New York Social Diary that featured decorator Betty Sherrill's (of New York City's McMillen, Inc. Design firm) apartment.  The look is super traditional with lots of French and English antiques, original paintings, soft colors and traditional floral prints.  This style is what made me fall in love with interior design and decorating a few decades ago.  My taste has changed a little since then, but I still love traditional style and layers of pretty things.
The living room has buttery walls and is more cluttered than we typically see today.  But it's pretty clutter.

Don't you love the trim on that tablecloth?

This little area off the living room is a bar, and it looks like lattice on the walls.

This is the library.  It's so cozy with the warm color on the walls and the mix of pattern.

Here's a tighter shot of the library shelves packed with family photos and personal momentos.

This room is more restrained than the rest of the house. What do you think of the leopard chairs on the leopard rug?

This is a shot of the bathroom's family gallery - casually placed right on the tile.

If you get a chance, head over to the New York Social Diary and read the article.  Ms. Sherrill is a lady with an opinion and she's happy to share it!

Hope you're having a great week!

Kim-
Actually the dining room works for me. I really love the chairs, and the trim is perfect. I may try this myself.
Thank you for sharing this beautiful home.
Happy Thursday.

I love the dining room. The leopard on the chairs is fantastic, but I'd prefer some other pattern for the rug with a larger scale.

I adore the chairs in the dinning room. Her home might be over done for the trends of today, but I love that she has decorated her home in what she loves and her style.

I love the layered cluttered look but I am not so sure I would want to dust it. I guess you need staff to have that look!

I wouldn't layer the leopard chairs with the leopard rug, but separately I love them both! It was fun looking around her house!

Playing video games can be a very fun activity and it is an activity that people from all around the world enjoy. The information in this article will help you navigate the world of computer games without buying a poor game, or one that isn't age-appropriate.

Don't use harsh solutions to clean gaming systems. Instead, blown on it very lightly so you can eliminate dust. Using harsh solutions can ruin your system.

Some computer game titles are geared towards education. Consider these educational titles for children, and avoid those with questionable content. Do some online research for game reviews from other parents. This is a way that you can find games not only appropriate for your children, but even fun and educational for them too!

Limit cheat codes for games requiring skill to play. This is something that you will want to avoid, as it defeats the purpose of the game itself. Some cheats can ruin your whole game but sports related codes are the exception - they enhance the experience.

Should you have a wii repaired or just get a new one? If you break your system, then you should consider upgrading, not repairing it. That's because the cost you will incur from the repair could exceed the cost of purchasing a brand new system. Consider upgrading your current system, or check out an all new gaming system. You're going to have to get a new one eventually. You might as well do it now.

It can be helpful to play a trial version of a game you are unsure about purchasing. Trials let you test the game out first to see if it's something you like playing. If you enjoy the trial, you can make the purchase.

If you are a enthusiast of playing online games, you probably have your favorites. However, you should not narrow your choices. To make sure you do not get bored, try to vary the genres you play. You might have a more memorable experience in some genre that you previously avoided.

You don't have to play online games on a wii - if you are reading this, you obviously have an Internet-enabled device, and you can play games on that, too! Lots of system games also offer versions for computers, allowing you to play your favorite titles on any system.

Of course, you will have your favorites if you are a serious gaming hobbyist. It's important that these are not the only types of games you play all the time, though. Try out different styles of games every now and again. Finding new genres of games can be an exciting experience.

Check the Internet for recommendations and tricks for you favorite games. When you get stuck somewhere in a game, it can frustrate you and maybe even make you give up. Consulting a walkthrough or asking other gamers on a message board is the surest way to conquer that tough level and start enjoying the game again.

Figure out how to operate the safety and parental controls of any gaming system that comes into your home. You can likely make adjustments that keep kids from viewing mature content. Some allow each gaming profile to be customized separately, allowing adults to enjoy games not meant for younger audiences.

The world of computer games gets bigger and better over time. But there are many choices to make where gaming is involved. This article has helpful advice for both players and parents. Follow the recommendations presented here to learn how to choose and purchase online gaming with confidence.
