Bold Prints on Sofas

Thursday, May 31, 2012

I've blogged about this very topic before here, but when I saw this image over at Savvy Home, I couldn't resist doing another post on the subject.  Don't we all love neutral sofas because they provide a clean canvas for trendy, colorful throw pillows that can be changed out whenever the latest fabric obsession presents itself? Of course we do, but these sofas with bold prints are kind of new and exciting again!
This is the image that reaffirmed my love for printed sofas.  It's from Suzanne and Lauren McGrath's book, Good Bones, Great Pieces.

I found this image on Betsey Speert's blog, which, oddly enough, is called Betsy Speert's Blog.  I adore the snow leopard print on the sofa!
Color enthusiast Miles Redd for Oscar de la Renta Home

A gorgeous Clarence House print works perfectly on this sofa. Interior design by Jamie Rummerfield.  P.S.  I spy what is surely Scalamandre's Leopardo on the upholstered ottoman.  I told you animal prints are neutral!

Outstanding

Another sofa with a bold print combined with an animal print - and a dash of Marilyn.

Could you be so bold with your sofa?

Βeautiful styled images, but I don't think I could be so bold with a sofa! Art print probably yes, a rug yes, but sofa I prefer in a quiet and neutral color!

If I had the money to splurge a bit, you betcha!

I love them elsewhere, but I can't do it again - the commitment is too long!

I think there's a fine line, but in many cases, a print on a sofa can read as very rich. My husband's grandparents had an incredible, down-filled sofa covered in a Palm Beach-ish chintz. Today, it is retro, but in its day, it was the epitome of chic.

I envy people who are brave enough to buy a bold sofa. I think they can go really wrong, really fast but when it is done right you cannot beat it.

I'm open to it but I feel I might get tired of the print quickly. Maybe a patterned slipcover?!

I LOVE the Oscar sofa! These sofas make me really think about it too, Kim!! I am going to cover something with the Oscar fabric.
Thank you for sharing. Pinning!
Happy Friday.

They are beautiful. I had a bold print sofa, but I get sick of things very fast. After 10 years of it I was ready to scream. Now I have a plain ivory sofa. When I get tired of it I change the pillows. A cheap way to change the whole room.

My favorite sofa of all time was one I got at a consignment shop that was bright red plaid. Not at all a fabric I would pick on my own, but it worked. And I loved it!!

Nope! But I sure love them in other peoples homes.
Actually I could do a patterned love seat in my office. But not in the main living room.

I wish I could be that bold, but I am always thinking of investing in something classic that will last a very long time.

I'm going bold in color next time. But I'm debating animal print, too. Both can handle patterned and bold pillows. That's more me. I get bored too quickly -- the downside of being in this business!

I've been loving my new white sofa cover. Not sure if I would ever have bold sofas like these ones, but it doesn't mean they're not beautiful. I like the last one!

Nope! I could not! I could maaaaaaybe handle a stripe, or smattering of paisley, but oh-so-restrained. Too lively for me. Maybe I'm chicken.

I have a really bold ikat sofa in my family room, and I love it. It isn't for everyone, but I paired it with solid club chairs and have solid throw pillows on it.

So glad you like my sofa, it hid all the dog and cat hair....
I decorated that room (my den) 20 years ago. I like to think my style is timeless.
Now, if only my body would be as cooperative!

I would love one! Especially the snow leopard or the Oscar version. There is still so much you could do to change their look if you got sick of them. Sign me up!! ;-)

I adore prints and bright colors on sofas, but the pocket book says differently. It's too hard to change out when I get tired of it. But, if money was endless, then YES!!

I would love to go bold on a sofa or loveseat - I think it makes such a fun statement. I'm very drawn to the look that's for sure. Have you seen the latest Architectural Digest? There are some great great examples of this as well this month. I'm off to do some reading now.
