Patterned Floors - Yes or No?

Sunday, December 8, 2013

I think we can all agree that wood is at the top of the list when it comes to flooring choices. And with good reason.    It's hard to beat the warmth and timeless appeal of a wood floor.

But have you ever considered taking a risk with a bold  pattern on the floor?

I love this bedroom in a large way, and for the record, most everything Alex Papachristidis does.

I think if I were going to try a patterned floor then the bathroom might be the best place to try it.  That floor is amazing with the white walls isn't it?

I particularly love the patterned carpet in the bedroom below by Mario Buatta and Susanna Salk. And that fabric.  Pretty gorgeous.

And here's a patterned floor in a room with an entirely different feel, courtesy of Kelly Wearstler in Lonny.

This one is a modern interpretation on the classic hex tile.

So what do you think?  Patterned floors?  Yes or no?

I do love them but in small doses. They need to be done just right or it would look like a hot mess.

while i do love them i feel that there is such an expense when redoing the house next time around so i wouldnt do it at my home.

I like the Mario Buatta room, too. The idea of patterned carpet works really well in an over-the-top bedroom and actually makes the space look cozy.

Not for me unless it is one color and patterned texture.

I would love it in a small space like the powder room, but it's too committed for me for a larger space, I might get tired of it after a while. But hey, it does make a fabulous statement for sure!

I'm all for it in tile, like in a bathroom or an entryway or even a kitchen. But the carpet patterns freak me out. It reminds me of being in a daycare, I just can't.

I don't think I have the courage to do it. I can in an area rug, because I can change it out. I could live with a pattern in black and white, but would hesitate to do it in color. Also, in a small, but impact full area. Entry, or master bath would to the trick!

I would say no in general although there are always exceptions! A well designed room could pull it off. Hope your holiday journey is going well! xo Nancy

Maybe for a powder room or a small area, but while I love the look, I don't think I could commit to much more than that..

Kelly Wearstler is the queen of this, I LOVE all the ones she does including the one you've included here. I probably wouldn't do it though...unless I was doing the retro flower hex tile pattern in a bathroom. I love that.
