The Good Kind of Shopping

Sunday, November 25, 2012

Hello and happy Monday!  How was your Thanksgiving?  Mine was delicious (thanks Mom!) and I'm happy to say that my now slightly larger backside did not stand in any of those awful Black Friday lines.  I will never understand the excitement some people seem to get from that tradition. That being said, I did manage to make it to a few Antique Malls and actually found some lovely things.

Like this sweet floral chair.

It has a great shape -  and that peach and gray floral fabric? It reminds me of my own peach and gray wedding ages ago.

Who doesn't love a gold faux bamboo table?
Alex Papachristidis hasn't met one he doesn't like (and I say that in the best possible way).

This pair of interracial concrete greyhounds would be wonderful flanking a fireplace (or my front doors).
I'd love to have these, with a side of Zimba.

I haven't personally jumped on this bandwagon, but these lockers look great in orange.
And could be very practical in an office.

That concludes the stuff I didn't buy portion of my little shopping excursion. I'd love to know what you bought over the weekend. And more importantly, are you out of your "yoga" pants yet?

Appreciation is the highest form of prayer, for it acknowledges the presence of good wherever you shine the light of your thankful thoughts.

I'd like to express my sincere thanks to all of you who take precious time out of your busy lives to check in on my little blog.  I am humbled and so very grateful for  your support.

Have a safe and happy Thanksgiving holiday!

Chevron Gone Wrong

Thursday, November 15, 2012

Apparently the folks at Snuggie have jumped on the chevron bandwagon too.

Spotted at my local Bed Bath & Beyond.

Can Imperial Trellis Snuggie be far behind?

White Walls with Antique Rugs

Sunday, November 11, 2012

It's my latest obsession.  Crisp white walls combined with intricately patterned old rugs.  Does the mix get any better than this?  I think not.

The timeworn, faded quality of the antique rug takes just enough edge off, don't you think?

Antique rugs also look superb in white kitchens, adding some warmth to all the slick surfaces.

Even in a bathroom, an old Persian rug adds warmth and texture (although I don't know how practical it is placed so closely to the tub.)

Mid Century Cane Chairs Makeover

Saturday, November 3, 2012

Today I have a chair(s) makeover to share with you.  I won't bore you with the details of the process,  because its tedious and not very exciting to document in pictures. I say we just take a look at where it all started.

I found a pair of these Mid-Century cane armchairs at an Estate sale.  They were leftovers from a previous estate sale, probably because that gold velvet upholstery was in very sad shape.  Even though the wood frame was in perfect condition, I ultimately painted them because I thought they would look better with the green & white ikat fabric I had chosen.

Fast forward through the stripping, painting, cutting, stapling, gluing and cussing, and this is what I ended up with.

And wouldn't you know just the day before I finished these up I came across the perfect vintage lamp to coordinate with them.

Do you remember my dresser makeover a few weeks ago?

It occurred to me that with just a few accessories and pillows, you could literally build an entire room around these pieces.

Look for the chairs and lamp to mingle with the dresser at my booth at Merchants on Main this week.

Don't you love it when things come together so unexpectedly?

Look For Less - Worlds Away Treillage Console

Thursday, November 1, 2012

Some of my favorite blog posts are those that feature affordable renditions of high end pieces, so I'm excited to share my find with you today!

I've always admired the World's Away Treillage console table but found that the price tag made this one unattainable for many budgets.

It's a beautiful piece, but it's priced at around $1500. Luckily I stopped into my local Pier 1 last week and found an impressive version of the Treillage.

Pier 1's "Link" console is priced at a doable $349, and although the finish isn't the same as the World's Away piece, it could be a fun diy with spray paint, Rub'n'Buff, or even gold/silver leaf.

I hope everyone's having a great week.  I'm behind on my blog reading but hope to rectify that this weekend!

Do you have any great "look for less" discoveries to share?
