Animal Prints are Neutral

Thursday, May 17, 2012

Do you like to use animal prints?  Years ago I favored using a little leopard print and then my allegiance switched over to zebra prints. I still love them both, and I've also admired antelope, tiger, and even a little python. The thing about most animal prints is that they can fit in just about anywhere, especially if they have the same coloration we see in the natural world.
I can't be certain, but that pillow looks like Scalamandre's Leopardo in silk velvet.  I'd love to have some pillows done in that fabric, but the husband insists we make the mortgage payment instead.

Another favorite, again Scalamandre' silk velvet, this time it's LeTigre.

Again it's Le Tigre, on a decadent upholstered ottoman. Have you noticed Miles Redd uses this print frequently?

I just love this mix - the very modern zebra bench with the more rustic elements. Lovely!

This room was decorated by Elsie de Wolf years ago and it's still current.  Note the leopard pillows on the yellow velvet settees.

Todd Romano decorated this space.  The antelope carpet is unexpected and so chic.

Finally, this image has been all around the blogosphere and probably on everybody's Pinterest, but I think it's worth seeing again. Emerald green and leopard were made for each other!

So, I'd love to know how you feel about animal prints.  Do you have a favorite, do you love them all, or do you stay away from them?

I've never been one for leopard print - although it's growing on me! I do love zebra though!

Beautiful Kim, and funny comment about the mortgage payment I LOL'd! I love a little animal but am slow to add it to my personal space. I think I could realistically do python or snake but I do love zebra accents!
Have a great day.

LOVE them in my decor or my closet! I'm dying for a zebra rug, or that ottoman would be nice!

I recently started introducing prints to my wardrobe (scarves, pumps, handbags… baby steps really) but I am yet to bite the bullet and decorate with them. I am warming to the idea of animal print cushions like that in the first picture.

love Todd Romano's work, and he does great work on small spaces!
I am with you 100% Kim! All animal prints are neutral and I also would love some silk velvet. Curious to know the price per yard.
I love the leopard carpet, but it is pricey and I don't know how soon I would tire of it.
Happy Thursday.

I am still drawn to a really good, organic zebra print. Just a hint of it in a room is nice. I like a good hide as well.

I can't see using animal prints in our home at all, but I'd love to be able to experiment in a client's home with it. I think the right tone to the room needs to be set in order to use it well - either really swanky or very neutral bringing in the animal print to spice it up. These are some great examples.

Thank you! I'm always saying leopard is my neutral! Whether it's in my home or in my wardrobe...leopard is my black!
