Flush and Semi-Flush Mount Ceiling Fixtures and a Moodboard

Sunday, February 26, 2012

There are so many beautiful and dramatic lighting options for those who are lucky enough to have high ceilings.  But what if your ceilings are 8 feet (and your husband is over 6 feet tall)?  Well, the options for stylish lighting then become a bit more limited, but don't despair - I've searched the interwebs for the very best fixtures that live close to the ceiling and still make a statement.

I want to use a pair of these fixtures from Lowe's to replace the brass boob light currently in my long, narrow family room.  It comes in a brushed nickel finish but I plan to take a can of gold spraypaint to the cage to make it fit in with the design plan.

Also from Lowes, this flushmount fixture would add some great vintage style to your kitchen.

Progress Lighting lantern from Home Depot comes in brass, polished nickel and this dark bronze finish.

This star fixture from Ballard Designs would add so much personality to a mud room or hallway.

I just love  this Acanthus ceiling light from Shades of Light I used in a moodboard for a client's family room.

Ultimately, my clients chose to go with another great option also from Shades of Light

So there you have it! Who says lower ceilings can't be stylish?

Do you have any others to add to my list?

Love the first one, Kim!!! Great post. Have seen plenty of people hit light fixtures with their head!
Hope that you have had a great weekend.

We have low ceilings in our dining room and I feel like every fixture I want hangs to low. We have one that is only a few years old but I had buyer's remorse almost from the start. Ugh.
Really like the Acanthus one.

Lowe's sometimes surprises you. I love the last fixture from Shades of Light.

This is a big problem in my house too, Kim - the lower ceilings. It's so hard to find interesting lighting that is flush or semi-flush mounted....thanks for sharing these great options!
Also your mood board is so similar to one I did for my basement - even the same orange and white pillow for my leather couch! (but it's out of my price range - boo.) Loving an orange and navy color scheme if I can ever get going on that project.

Awesome post! We really struggled with the 8' ceilings in our Chickamauga house and wound up going with some of the more attractive looking track lights in that kitchen & living room that are available at Lowe's lately.

Can we start an internet movement to rid the world of boob fixtures? They should be outlawed. Of course, I love all of your choices and am really liking the look of a hanging lantern in entry ways and other spaces lately. Perhaps you'll use one of the fixtures in the Dollhouse? :)

Well, I like best the last one! I find it very impressive! Anyone walking into that room would stop and stare!

You are so right. With great options like these, there's no excuse for anyone to settle for a boob light.

Those are great options! There is really no excuse for boob lights anymore, is there?
