You really don't get a sense of the scale of this thing - trust me, it's huge.
Anyway, just any old lamp shade won't fit a lamp of this size. Luckily I had purchased a few big shades months ago and as luck would have it, this shade was a perfect fit.
Okay, so it fits, but somehow this shade just isn't, well, enough for Lampzilla. Not only is it crooked, it just doesn't have enough pizazz to do Lampzilla justice.
Enter this big old ugly shade I've had hanging around for ages.
and, as is true in so many cases, it's paint to the rescue!
Gosh I just love a happy ending!

Well hello, handsome ! That shade is perfect for him.
What a transformation! I would never have thought to paint the shade - He looks stunning ;)
Kim - You gotta tell me more about how the paint worked - does it look streak-y when the light is turned on? I have a pair of lamps from Home Goods, and the shades are black, but really thin, and when the lamp is on, you can see the light bulb - ick. I've been wondering how to remedy this, but thought paint might somehow make it worse. Your project leads me to believe otherwise!
Kim-
My hat's off to you on this one! Amazing job.
Thank you for sharing the inspiration!

I love a good creative reuse! Very stylish--great job!
Fabulous redesign and great lamp!
I sooo need you here to fix most of my lamps - many are without shades because I just never like the ones I pick out :)
That shade is perfect and so cool that you painted it! Stylish - love the trim.
Kim, Kim, Kim. You are fab. And now you have a lampshade worthy of that shapely golden lamp!
Well...well...that certainly is a happy ending [and not the kind you get after a massage in China]. Love the trim!!!
Kim, your lamp looks fabulous! Thank you for posting about this....I have been thinking about painting a lampshade......now I'm definitely going to do it! Love the trim on yours; it finishes it off so well.
Hey Kim, thanks so much for stopping by my blog! I've been following yours for quite some time now! I am very excited about the booth...my mom did it up in Maryland and now that she has moved back down to NC she and I are doing it together. We have a LOT of work to do but I am loving it. It satisfies all those buying urges and I get to sell furniture that I can't put in my Etsy shop! Congrats on your best month to date...I hope we have a decent first month but I'm not expecting it!
Ooh wow, that looks great! To answer your question, we live in Florence :)
That is the perfect lid for Lampzilla! Very cool customer indeed!
Wow, that sincerely is a perfect match. It looks like it could have been the original shade for that lamp.
I'm dying to know more about this diy project. You used craft paint? How did it stand up? What a huge transformation. Way to go Kim!
Oh that is one magical transformation... Love the special ribbon it made a lot of difference on the lamp... so Handsome!
It looks fabulous! Love the change.
Love it!!! I have never painted a shade before...I paint almost everything...but for some reason get nervous about painting a lamp shade...kind of strange...I may need to take this on soon! Take care, Caroline
Have you seen those fabric spray paints they sell at Joann Fabrics? I've really gotten a ton of use out of them - they would be perfect for a lampshade and even better if you stenciled it somehow!
Oh yes, much better. The black with trim does it justice! Like putting on just the shoes with your outfit!
What a stunning transforrmation - love it! Very Versace! I just stumbled across your blog & have just spent the last half an hour enjoying myself reading through some old posts. I have just signed up as your latest follower & I look forward to popping back for some more creative inspiration!
