It opens with this old photo of Rose Cumming in her Park Ave. store
and goes on to highlight the works of design giants like Parrish-Hadley
and Mario Buatta , who really came into his element in the over the top 80's.
But what I find the most fascinating are the design elements we're still crazy about today, although some would call them "trends" that are "over". I beg to differ. Like the chevron pattern on the rug above.
A few relevant design elements in the space above include the marble floors, the fur bedspread, the arrangement of twigs on the piano and the bold abstract art. Do you see any more?
We're still all over a classic sunburst mirror, as well as the gallery installation of the artwork. Now below, look at the use of animal prints
And that's not all! There's Greek Key
plenty of Campaign style furniture
and even some antlers.
Oh, and it seems I have a duplicate copy of a favorite decorating book from the 1960's. This means I have one to give away. More to come on that soon!
Have a wonderful start to your week!

Would you believe that I bought this book at an estate sale over the summer, Kim?! Great minds...
That is SUPER cool! I totally want to start a collection now!
Kim, what an interesting and informative post. I really enjoyed it!

Kim-
I agree with you! It is not over. These trends are timeless.
Beautiful images.

I think true design always returns...just goes full circle, but it is timeless...
What a great book!

What a surprise to see the picture of the room with the chevron rug, I would have believed you if you said it was an image you found last week in a shelter magazine. There are some great timeless accessories and patterns but when you see them over and over they get old quickly. Just my opinion.
Truly amazing pictures. Classics.
What a great buy! And for a $1! These never get old and the good stuff is timeless!
Have a great week!

You raise a great point. Trends turn into classics if they are worthy!
Fantastic find Kim! I love the picture of Rose Cumming. Rachaelxx
Isn't it funny how things come around again. It just cracked me up to see so many things that we are seeing today in design. Its back
teh past is a gold mine of good stuff!
So true!! Can't wait to hear about the book giveaway.
so jealous!!!! Love the book! -Ann
Isn't that funny.....all those designs are trending again...I am just waiting to see the "Rat Pack" make an entrance!
I love this post! I just found the link over at Chateau À Gogo, and we are totally on the same wavelength... I actually blogged yesterday about an exquisite room Albert Hadley designed in the 1970s that looks like it was designed in 2013! http://www.theglampad.blogspot.com/2013/03/the-timeless-design-of-albert-hadley.html And I too made the case that Chevron is NOT a trend. :)
XOXO,
