Supersized Chandeliers

I've said it before here, but it bears repeating.  The right light fixture can completely transform a space.  And with light fixtures, I'm all over the map with what appeals to me.  Because of my history with historic home restoration,  I have a soft spot for antique lighting, but I like modern light fixtures too.  No matter what period they come from, I particularly like a large-scale chandelier.

Yes, this dining room by Amanda Nisbett is filled with beautiful furnishings (and curtains), but that enormous turquoise chandelier still manages to steal the show!

Didn't we all fall in love with the etageres on the counter tops in this kitchen?  Note the large scale chandelier over the rustic table.  Oversized, definitely, but it still feels right because of the simple, open design.

Oversize chandelier + lots of crystals = drama.  And PS this photo reconfirms my love for gray and lavender.

Three of my favorite things - white walls, gold accents and a big capiz shell chandelier

And this one.  So simple and yet so bold.

So there you have it  - a beautiful light fixture can "make" a space - and bigger is better.

  3. I love large chandeliers. They make such a great statement in a space. I love the one in the second picture. It's huge, but it doesn't take up much visual space. It's so pretty!

  4. I love a big chandelier. Does that second image bother you that it is not centered over the island/table? It is obviously centered in the room.

  6. I think lighting is absolutely key and to make it like ART, all the better; front and center, big as life. I love it.

  7. Yes,yes, yes! I bought an oversized fixture for my kitchen and I love it. My husband just said, "Its kinda big." *sigh* I am trying to find one for over the table that has enough light and won't break the bank.

  8. Dang that first one is amazing! I want a giant one in my living room someday. I have a builder home so there are like 20 boob lights to place!

  9. Is this your not-so-subtle way of telling us that an oversized chandelier is on its way to Project Dollhouse? If so, that's wonderful news.

  10. I like this look too! LGN's recent dining room chancy would fall into this category!! If I didn't have low ceilings, I'd be rethinking my DR chandelier!

  11. Go big or go home, right? I have an oversized IKEA chandy in my daughter's room and love it! The one for my office is a bit oversized as well, of course, it hasn't been hung yet. Soon, I hope. Love your examples!

  15. Crystal chandeliers evolved through time but reached a height during the development of lead glass in England in the 17th century. The addition of lead gave crystal its clarity and sparkle, adding life and fire. Lead has the ability to make glass highly refractive which determines the quality of a crystal chandelier.Crystal Chandeliers
