I firmly believe that it's the details that take a space from "pretty good" to extraordinary, so I tend to scrutinize rooms that I admire and make mental notes of all of the details. One of the details on my radar right now is the use of pleated lampshades.
Pleated lampshades were big in the 80's and 90's, but fell out of favor for the more streamlined drum shade. Apparently someone smarter than me thought that if brass could make a big comeback, why not bring back pleated lampshades too.
I think this is just part of a larger movement to more classic interiors, where the pretty details are layered on.

Everything seems to come back around one time or another...just a tad different...were seeing trims and now pleats! If south-west design comes back from the 80s...that will be hard to get on board with!

Before this post, I definitely would have said pleated lampshade are OUT! But now...I'm reconsidering. These all look pretty fab and add some great texture.

So funny that you mention it! I just purchased a large brass Frederick Cooper lamp on Etsy and picked it up this weekend. The shade it came with is pleated linen. I thought I'd replace it, but I really like it! And the best part is that the lamp with shade was 150.00. YAY!!

I'd definitely consider one in, say, a bohemian fabric from Peter Dunham or Kathryn Ireland. In a solid color, the shades would look really dull and dated, right?

ReplyDeleteI am so traditional......I love pleated lampshades and I love how peter dunham uses them. Also, I remember that charlotte moss' office in Lonny had one too....placed on top of a column lamp. I think her lampshade was a custom les indiennes fabric. So pretty!!
